
Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development Project in Egypt Wins the First Edition of the Arab Council for World Youth Award

Continuing successes and a new award added to the record of local and international achievements of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology; with the Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development Project in Egypt winning the first edition of the Arab Council for World Youth Award 2024, in the category of entities and institutions contributing to empowering youth, both governmental and private.
The project won the award this year, outperforming 586 projects representing more than 34 countries around the world, which were received by the General Secretariat of the Arab Council for World Youth in the three award tracks, as the project achieved the main criteria of the award, which are achieving social and environmental impacts using information and communications technology to empower youth.
Obtaining this award is a culmination of the efforts of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in achieving sustainable development and empowering youth using information technology, in addition to showcasing the success of the Egyptian experience in the field of empowering youth and achieving digital community development, benefiting from the best Arab and international practices and facilitating the process of networking globally, and the project met the conditions of scalability and sustainability and building a network of strategic partners.
It is worth noting that the Digital Transformation for Sustainable Development Project in Egypt was launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in partnership with the United Nations Development Program, in light of Egypt's digital strategy and the Sustainable Development Goals, with the aim of harnessing information and communications technology to achieve the global goals of sustainable development represented in supporting economic growth, taking into account the social and environmental dimensions by empowering the most needy groups represented by residents of remote areas, women and persons with disabilities. In this regard, the project provides a package of solutions and training programs concerned with how to use information and communications technology to raise the capabilities of youth and marginalized groups, and the economic and social empowerment of women working in informal sectors by providing training in e-commerce, digital marketing, artificial intelligence solutions and financial inclusion for craftswomen, in addition to integrating persons with disabilities into the labor market by providing an electronic platform for employment and training for persons with disabilities, raising awareness of electronic risks and digital threats, and harnessing information technology to resolve environmental crises and raise awareness of climate change. The project also relies on a broad network of partners and stakeholders, especially government agencies, international organizations, civil society organizations, academic bodies and the private sector to ensure the sustainability of the development model. The award is granted by the Arab Council for Youth, an Arab initiative established based on the recommendations of the 53rd General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities held at Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University, for the development of youth globally. The award was launched in cooperation with the Arab Federation for Volunteering, headquartered in Bahrain, and some international organizations, under the auspices of the League of Arab States.
The Arab Council for World Youth Award is one of the global awards targeting the youth of the world in various fields to honor creative and exceptional projects and highlight the distinguished efforts of youth in achieving positive change. The award's fields vary between technological culture, linguistic empowerment and critical thinking, peaceful societies, local and global citizenship, and creativity in solving problems and making decisions.
The importance of this award comes from achieving a number of elements of excellence represented in focusing on the goals of sustainable development, as the award directly links the participating projects to the goals of sustainable development, which enhances the importance of these projects in facing global challenges.
The award also relies on twenty-first century skills by encouraging the use of modern and innovative skills in implementing projects.
In addition to the award’s strong strategic partnerships with regional and international institutions such as the Arab Federation for Volunteering and the League of Arab States, which increases its impact and reach to a wide segment of youth. The award also relies on precise evaluation criteria that include the social and environmental impact of projects, their scalability and sustainability, in addition to innovation and reliance on technology tools and applications.
