Project : Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative
On government policies and their role in addressing digital violence, Dr. Asmaa Saber, Director of the Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative, participated in the webinar organized by the Edraak Foundation for Development and Equality, entitled "Digital Violence Against Women: Reality, Challenges, and Solutions."
During the webinar, the Director of the Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative, affiliated with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, highlighted the initiative's efforts to support and empower all segments of Egyptian society with digital security and provide them with protection from the dangers of the internet, especially those most vulnerable to these threats, such as children and women. This is consistent with digital citizenship standards and social responsibility. It also empowers them to engage safely and responsibly in the virtual world, equips them with the skills necessary to identify and raise awareness of cyber threats, and provides them with a full understanding of the repercussions and consequences of their online behavior, as well as the protection and support mechanisms available for this purpose. She also discussed the Ministry's commitment to launching the Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative to serve as a nucleus for spreading community awareness about safe internet use skills and ways to protect against digital risks. The initiative focuses its activities on targeting its primary beneficiaries, namely women, youth, and children. She noted that empowering women to use information and communications technology tools and protecting them from risks and cyber violence is a necessity that must be continuously supported and strengthened to ensure a digital future that accommodates everyone with justice and security.
The webinar included a number of experts, both male and female, and those interested in the issue of digital violence against women and girls. Discussions focused on the reality of the online violations women and girls are subjected to, while reviewing the challenges facing protection efforts and possible solutions for building a safe digital environment. The topics covered the rising phenomenon of digital violence in Egypt and the social factors associated with it, particularly among the most vulnerable groups of women and girls. They also addressed artificial intelligence and sophisticated forgery as a new threat to privacy and personal dignity, with an emphasis on legal frameworks to protect survivors of digital violence. This meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views and experiences among activists interested in women's rights and digital justice.
