Project : Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative

As part of the implementation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Qalyubia Governorate regarding capacity building and digital empowerment of citizens in the governorate, the Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative organized a training program on "Basic Skills for Digital Citizenship and Online Protection" on internet risks, provided by UNICEF. The program was held over two days, June 30 and July 1, 2025, at Al-Salam School in Banha and the Banha branch of the Egyptian Public Library in Qalyubia Governorate.
The training activities addressed awareness of the basic concepts of digital citizenship, internet risks, how to confront them, and methods of protection, support, and reporting. Several interactive activities were also implemented, encouraging children to recognize cyberbullying and deal with it appropriately, as well as the appropriate time to be exposed to electronic screens and how to manage it. The program also aimed to raise digital awareness about their rights and responsibilities in the digital space. The training program was presented by the initiative's coordination and training officials, Mr. Mahmoud Salah El-Din and Mr. Akmal Omar.
The Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative continues to implement its community outreach plan through community centers, schools, and youth centers in various governorates to disseminate awareness and training content to target groups of children, adolescents, parents, and teachers. The initiative collaborates with UNICEF and partners to implement several interactive training programs for target groups in schools and libraries. These programs raise awareness of digital threats and risks, as well as key digital citizenship concepts for children and young people. This program aims to enable them to navigate the digital world safely, equip them with the skills necessary to identify threats, fully understand the implications and consequences of their online behavior, and help them better navigate technological developments.
