The discussion session, which was participated in via video conference technology, emphasized the responsibility of the information and communications technology sector in promoting digital literacy and supporting the concepts of electronic citizenship, and how to address the challenges associated with it.
In this regard, she presented the Egyptian initiative launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, as part of its strategy to raise awareness of digital citizenship and online safety, which is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt's digital vision.
She reviewed the legislative and regulatory frameworks that support this strategy, such as the legal framework for e-commerce, the electronic signature law, and the launch of the artificial intelligence strategy.
The Minister's Advisor pointed out that this strategy is based on developing digital skills for individuals through programs and initiatives targeting different age groups and skill levels, while at the same time working to enhance digital innovation technology by establishing business incubators to support start-ups and entrepreneurs.
In the same context, she explained the need to adopt a pioneering strategy for online safety and child protection, as the importance of the Ministry's launch of the Digital Citizenship and Online Protection Initiative to empower individuals and communities digitally by eradicating illiteracy about digital security and raising awareness about it, as the initiative succeeded in cooperation with its partners UNICEF Egypt and the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, in reaching 20 different governorates, each with its own unique background and challenges.
The Minister’s Advisor highlighted the initiative’s achievements through raising awareness and training for more than 3,000 beneficiaries including children, youth, teachers and parents, who were able to assess online risks and make wise digital choices, improving their critical thinking skills. Children also learned how to report cyber threats, which contributes to promoting safer internet practices. In addition, the initiative implemented many engaging training activities and interactive simulations for children on the basic concepts of digital citizenship, which enhances their knowledge of key online safety issues and helps create a culture of responsibility and safety in the digital world.
